As winter approaches, ReStart Coweta has made the strategic decision to transition our inclement weather relief model. Rather than operating out of a single fixed physical location, ReStart is transitioning The NEST into a direct, mobile cold-weather supplies network.
This decision allows us to broaden our reach across Coweta County—providing essential cold-weather supplies to more unhoused neighbors throughout the winter season, rather than limiting assistance to sporadic freeze nights at a single location.
Securing a physical shelter site has presented significant challenges, particularly involving insurance availability, property liability, and the ability to identify a suitable location. While community partners and local officials have graciously offered their time in exploring solutions, these obstacles prompted us to take a deeper look at the program’s long-term sustainability, use of resources, and overall community impact. Through this evaluation, ReStart recognized an opportunity to develop a more sustainable approach that extends our reach and allows us to assist more individuals throughout Coweta County.
Through scheduled distribution days and strategic community touchpoints across Coweta County, we will directly provide winter survival packages. While these supplies cannot replace the protection of indoor shelter, this approach allows us to provide meaningful assistance to individuals facing dangerous winter conditions without the limitations of operating a physical facility.
Our Commitment to Year-Round Stability
While winter brings acute hazards, homelessness in Coweta County is not seasonal—it is a 365-day reality. Our core work continues uninterrupted: providing intensive one-on-one case management, removing critical employment hurdles, teaching household budgeting, and walking alongside individuals and families as they find long-term stability.
Real, lasting change requires consistent, year-round community investment. You can partner with us beyond the winter months by joining our ReStart 100 giving initiative, shopping and donating at ReStart Thrift (28 Salbide Avenue, Newnan, GA 30263), or organizing cold-weather gear drives.
