What We Do
ReStart Coweta is a nonprofit organization that provides wraparound case management and referral services to homeless individuals and families that want to become self-sustainable. We start by hearing their story and narrowing down how they’ve come to their current circumstances. Then we can create a case plan for the client combining necessary actions with their goals. Additionally, we run the NEST Warming Shelter providing a warm place to sleep during extreme weather conditions.
At ReStart Coweta, case management is an active partnership. We meet individuals and families where they are, helping them navigate housing insecurity to sustainable independence.
The NEST opens its doors to those needing shelter during inclement/freezing weather. NEST offers a warm bed, food, and restoration of the spirit.
Restoring Hope. Justin's Story.
When Justin (JJ) first walked through the doors of The NEST, our seasonal emergency warming shelter, he was simply trying to survive another dangerously cold Coweta County night.
JJ had been unhoused for 11 years—ever since his mother passed away during his senior year at Newnan High School. She was his entire support system, and navigating the world alone with an intellectual disability proved overwhelming. Despite the odds, JJ continued to work and do the very best he could, but navigating housing lists, paperwork, and stability required a dedicated partner in his corner.
Emergency sheltering at The NEST kept JJ safe for the night, but for JJ lasting stability required something more: year-round, dedicated case management.
For months, our Case Manager, Jennifer Leebern, walked alongside JJ. Together, they tackled the steady, behind-the-scenes work of documentation, goal setting, and housing navigation. In June, their persistence paid off when JJ was approved for an Emergency Housing Voucher.
Securing a voucher is a huge victory, but moving into an empty space requires a community. That’s when Coweta County rallied:
• ReStart Coweta covered JJ’s first month's rent, rental deposits, and utility setup.
• ReStart Thrift, Bridging the Gap, and generous local community members furnished his apartment with home essentials, dishes, and linens.
• A Newnan City Church volunteer group showed up with trucks and helping hands to move everything in and turn an apartment into a true home.
• Generous friends Nathan and Jennifer Dockery and Sherrie and Matthew Roberts gifted JJ an electric bicycle so he could travel reliably to and from work every day.
Today, JJ has the safety of his own front door. He continues to meet regularly with our case manager to set new goals and build lasting independence.
Stories like JJ’s don’t happen through a single meeting. They happen through compassionate emergency care at The NEST, months of tireless case management, and a community committed to restoring hope and rebuilding lives together.
